SWS: Worry over Covid-19 grows

  • Majority of Filipinos are worried that they or their family members will contract Covid-19, a non-commissioned survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

The Third Quarter Survey revealed that 91 percent of respondents reported that they were worried that anyone in their immediate family might catch Covid-19 with 76 percent saying they were “a great deal worried” and 15 percent “somewhat worried.”

Only 9 percent of the respondents said they were only a little worried or not worried at all.

“The latest percentage of those worried about catching Covid-19 is 4 points above the 87 percent in June 2021 and ties the record-high level reached in November 2020,” the pollster said. This was also 6 points higher than the survey results in September 2020 where 85 percent expressed concern about catching the virus.

Worry about catching Covid-19 rose in all areas — 95 percent in Visayas, 94 percent in Mindanao, 91 percent in Metro Manila and 88 percent in Balance Luzon. This showed a 3- to 6-percent increase in every location from June 2021.

SWS surveyed 1,200 respondents from September 12 to 16 nationwide using face-to-face interviews. The results of the survey have a margin of error of ±3 percent for national percentages and a ±6 percent margin of error for each geographic location: Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
