  • Surrey, BC With the aim of increasing community pride, Surrey City Council has
endorsed the new ‘CleanBlitz’ pilot program that will take place in town centres across
the City. The ‘CleanBlitz’ pilot starts in Newton before moving on to other Surrey
    communities.

“I’m excited to launch the new ‘CleanBlitz’ pilot program in Surrey’s Town Centres,”
said Mayor Brenda Locke. “With c
leanup blitzes starting in Newton, including at Unwin
and Cougar Creek Parks, Council has expanded the initiative to all of Surrey’s Town
    Centres
. This program will help increase community pride by creating cleaner, safer,
healthier, and more vibrant neighbourhoods for residents and businesses
    .
With Council’s endorsement, staff will now pilot a litter pickup and cleanblitz in town
centres, followed by targeted enforcement in hotspot locations using both Engineering
and Bylaws staff. The effectiveness of the Newton pilot will be assessed to determine if
changes are required before shifting to other communities in Surrey.
    The proposed next
steps to further the City’s efforts with cleanup and waste reduction include a
comprehensive communication and education campaign, followed by neighbourhood
    action plans.
