Muriel Arnason Library’s Sarwan Singh Randhawa wins the Champion of Diversity Award. Abbotsford BC – Fraser Valley Regional Library’s (FVRL) Dr. Sarwan Singh Randhawa has been recognized for his work building cultural connections in the local community. He was awarded the prestigious 2015 Champion of Diversity Award at the 12th Annual Fraser Valley Cultural Diversity Awards. He was nominated for the award by Township of Langley Mayor Jack Froese.

Randhawa, the Community Librarian at FVRL’s Muriel Arnason branch, is active in the Township of Langley and has become well known for celebrating diversity through various initiatives both in-library and in the surrounding community. Township of Langley Councillor Petrina Arnason – the daughter of Muriel Arnason, for which the Willowbrook area library is named after – accepted the award on Randhawa’s behalf and shared his message of “gratitude and honour.” Randhawa was unable to attend the ceremony as he was abroad at the time.

“Sarwan exemplifies FVRL’s values – his passion for creating and supporting multicultural programs and efforts have drawn many people to the resources of the library,” say Scott Hargrove, FVRL’s Chief Executive Officer. “His celebration of diversity makes both FVRL and the local community that much more inclusive and vibrant.”

Randhawa has been a major contributor to the successful organization of FVRL’s Diwali festivities and World Cultures Month activities, as well as local Canada Day celebrations, the Langley International Festival, and much more. He has also served on the boards of many local multicultural organizations.
