  • Program encourages residents to plant trees on private property

Surrey, B.C. – City of Surrey announces the final two dates of its expanded tree sale program for 2021, enabling residents to purchase quality trees, at an affordable price, to plant on their property.

“We are encouraging Surrey residents to purchase a tree to plant on their property to expand our urban forest and improve the environment,” said Mayor Doug McCallum. “Trees filter air pollution and water contaminants, provide shade and insulation for homes, reduce soil erosion and impacts of stormwater flooding, and beautify our neighbourhoods.”

The next tree sale opens on August 18 at 9:00 A.M. and closes on September 1, with a pickup date of September 12, 2021. The final tree sale opens on September 29 at 9:00 A.M. and closes on October 13, with a pickup date of October 24, 2021. Tree pickup location is at Surrey Operations Centre located at 6651 148 Street.

All trees are $20. Varieties will include dogwoods, magnolias, assorted fruit trees and other deciduous trees which all grow well in Surrey. Inventory is limited. Residents can purchase and register for tree pickup via a new online shopping portal, on a first come, first served basis. To view available tree types for sale visit, surrey.ca/treesale.

“By supporting our residents to plant trees on their private property, we are helping to grow the tree canopy coverage across the city,” said Councillor Allison Patton, Chair of the Agriculture, Environment and Investment Committee. “The tree sale program is aligned with the goals of Surrey’s Sustainability Charter, Climate Adaptation Strategy and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy. I am delighted that the expanded tree sale program is doing so well this year.”

The tree sale program is managed by Surrey Parks Division. The program provides Surrey residents with access to quality trees, at an affordable price, to help grow the City’s tree canopy coverage.
