  • ruffaTV host-actress Ruffa Gutierrez shared that she had the “best time” when she became a student of a Secrets and Spies, Modern Espionage and Intelligence course at King’s College in London for about a month. “It was time well spent. It’s not only me gallivanting or going on holiday, yeah, I would do that on weekends, but during the week I would focus on my school work,” Ruffa said at the press launch of Metro Magazine’s September issue on Wednesday, August 28.

She initially wanted to take International Political Economy, but she changed her mind at the last minute. “I find it more fascinating with the Edward Snowden case, with the terrorism happening in all parts of the world. It teaches you about privacy, social media. I found the course more interesting. Maybe I won’t be a CIA in the future or a James Bond, but I learned a lot from the course. Perhaps I’ll be able to use that also.”

Ruffa still wants to pursue a course on International Political Economy. She shared that her classmates were surprised to know from social media accounts that she is an actress in the Philippines. “Natatawa sila, nagulat sila. It’s nice kasi being in that surrounding and they don’t know you. And they appreciate you for who you are. Jeans, shirt, sneakers lang ako doon.”

Is she interested in entering politics?
“With everything that’s happening now, forget it. No way. I’m happy with my life, with the little privacy that I have. I can also help in my own way.” Ruffa said that she doesn’t have to be a government official to be able to help fellow Filipinos. She and her children helped families who were victims of Typhoon Maring. “Maybe perhaps one day I can work in government, why not? But not necessarily be elected as a public official.

You can do a government post naman without necessarily being elected as a government official. So now, it’s not in my plans at all.”

Ruffa also shared her thoughts on the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) issue.

“I think everyone’s sentiment is since we’re taxpayers, we want our money to go to the right places. Take care of the people first before you take care of yourself. Make sure na kami, tayo, maayos tayo. Di ba, ayusin man lang nila airport natin? Fix the roads.” As for her love life, Ruffa says, it is “boring”.

“I met a lot of people especially when I was living in London for a month. But I want to take my time. I want to take baby steps and there’s no reason for me to rush. I have two kids that I’m taking care of. The first time na I said na I fell in love, I followed my heart. This time, if I’m gonna fall again, I’m gonna use not only my heart, but my mind as well.”

Proceeds of Metro’s launch party on Wednesday will go to Sagip Kapamilya.
