  • Joey de Leon has a reminder to those who plan to participate in the much publicized ALS ice bucket challenge. “Don’t nominate if you don’t donate,” read a printed message he bears in an Instagram photo. On Twitter, the comedian further said, “Wag GALATE agad. Do not HATE. I said DONATE muna kahit anong DENOMINATE (tion)…”

Actress-comedian Tuesday Vargas also shared her thoughts on the matter by sharing an Instagram photo message that read: “Donate. Do not nominate.”

She wrote, “In a world brimming with problems, we should help one another conserve our valuable resources and direct our efforts instead to tangible result oriented causes. Waste not, want not.”

Note that the challenge works in that one dares the nominated person to be filmed while having a bucket of ice-cold water poured onto him before challenging someone else to followsuit. As per rule, the nominee who refuses to take on the challenge or fails to complete it within 24 hours should donate $100 dollars to the ALS association. The ice bucket challenge aims to raise funds for people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

    More and more
The new social media trend has already reached the attention of country’s high-profile personalities including Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares who both accepted  the challenge from broadcaster Anthony Taberna.

De Lima gamely took on the dare during a break at the Department of Justice headquarters in Manila on Tuesday.

As seen in a video, de Lima, wearing her work clothes and slippers, made a sign of the cross before she was poured with two buckets of ice-cold water by her security men, that got the employees shrieking.

“I love challenges, especially for a worthy cause. Marami na ang nag-take ng challenge all over the globe.

That’s why others, kunin din nila kasi it’s for a worthy cause; makakatulong po tayo,” she told reporters. She went on to nominate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, former Senator, now Yolanda Rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson and Iloilo Representative Niel Tupas. Taberna posted a video of Henares getting drenched. He said that the commissioner nominated Bureau of Internal Revenue Deputy Commissioner Estela Sales. (M. Duran)
