Manitoba Pinoys Celebrate Christmas with Parol & Caroling Fest

  • The Manitoba Filipino Street Festival recently held its Pinoy Parol Making and Group Caroling Contest at the Filipino Senior’s Hall on Euclid Street in Winnipeg on November 27. Filipino-Canadians in Winnipeg joined the festivities, which featured many Filipino foods traditional Christmas treats.
    manitobaparol1Organized yearly, the association’s new set of officers fully supported the festivities and announced the new set of officers for 2017. The officers include Anna Maceda, Aida Champagne, Jaina Medida, Rowena Oquendo, Vicky Tumolva, Jun Isla, Ester Camuyong, Manny Trawon, Rody Capistrano, Jun Oquendo, Orlando Sanchez, Marc Tumolva, Ley Navarro, and Wilfredo Sion.
    Like in previous years, the festivities was marked by a parol-making contest, and this year’s entries showed themanitoba3rd creativity of the Filipino. The winners of the recycled parol were Ian Flores in 1st place, Sherry de Guzman in 2nd place and Charinel Navoa in 3rd place. The assembled parol on site winners were Jenica Reyes, Bert Rano and Aura Catherine Llagas, in first, second and third places respectively. The Christmas Caroling contest winners, adjudged by Joy Lazo , Maui Zamora , Lourdes Hermano and Mar Mance, were The Family, The Singing Bulilit Choral Group, The Vocal Arts Group, and the North Stars Group, from first to fourth places. The association wishes to continue the manitobaparol2tradition and have bigger festivities in the coming years.
