How Gee!

  • Gee Canlas has surely come a long way from when she first started gaining notice for her “speed talking” trademark. (Parang metro ng taxi, may batinting ang dating!)

“Pinapahinga ko na rin siya,” she said, laughing. “It was interesting to do but I have evolved.”

Gee is now a Kapuso talent who appears on comedy and drama  shows. (Strike anywhere si ateng!)

“I feel perfectly at home working with GMA. My last show with them was ‘I Laugh Sabado’ six years ago. Now, I do comedy on ‘A1 Ko Sa’Yo’ and I am also part of the drama ‘Sinungaling Mong Puso.’ I feel this is a step up for me. I’ve been so used to hosting and this is the perfect time to branch out to acting,” Gee shared. (Makapaghanap nga din ng branch…ng pansitan!)

Given a choice, Gee wants to focus on doing comedy, which comes naturally to her.

“I can’t survive a day without thinking about something funny and I guess the same goes for my acting. But I would like to be a well-rounded artist, like Jaclyn Jose. She transitions flawlessly from drama to comedy,” she said. (Ah ’pag Jaclyn, dapat no acting-acting ang peg ’te!)

Many viewers notice her sexy body, something she finds flattering considering she wants it part of her “packaging.” (Ilabas ang packing tape!)

Gee explained, “I think everyone has their own definition of sexy but for me, it all stems from my real character. I would like to think that being quirky or embracing your goofy side is sexy. Something about how a person can be at ease with being themselves can be very appealing and sexy, and that’s what I hope to convey to my audiences.” (Oh, eh di ikaw na si Goofy!)

The Miriam College AB Communication graduate also has online shows. In fact, she had just launched the second season of “GeeTV.” (Aba may sariling istasyon ha!)

“I’ve always had weird but funny conversations with friends, including some funny situations and adventures that I thought would be fun to make into a series of skits and that’s what the show is all about. It’s also very Pinoy and relatable, basta, they just have to watch them online,” Gee said.

Her experience in TV and movie productions help her and her team create quality videos. (Wala naman sigurong scandal diyan?!)

“Well, nowadays, it’s so easy to make a video. With the convenience of video phones and editing apps, everyone can make a video about anything. Ours have a bit of cinematic quality, as if you’re watching a movie or a commercial.” (May budget ang lola ninyo!)

She hopes to produce more shows in the coming days. “The Internet is the future. There is a big market for it. I want to be part of that.” (Gusto ko ’yang future na ’yan! Push!)
