Teacher and youth advocate Rich Abarquez has started a campaign to help the homeless. “I am collecting washed, clean and without holes unpaired or mismatched socks, gloves or mittens to help the homeless in Vancouver,” Abarquez said. Abarquez is urging everyone to help in the drive by sharing this campaign to friends, family, colleagues, and networks.

“Let’s be more giving, caring and helpful especially this winter season and throughout the year,” he said. The campaign started with Abarquez noting that he has lots of unpaired and mismatched socks, and the idea of giving back to the community was born.

“My family always is and will be my inspiration. They inculcated in me to have a grateful heart for all the little blessings that I have been receiving and also to give back to my community whether it’d be giving time and energy by volunteering or for having a giving heart by donating. So I created a campaign that I am hoping will help homeless people in Vancouver especially this cold winter season,” he said.

Abarquez also said: “To volunteer is to give oneself without expecting anything in return. My family has taught me the value of giving back and being grateful.”

Pro Fit Sport Gear with the help of Daniel Dubois is offering a donation match. For every hoodie, jacket or sweater that has been donated they will match it to give to  the homeless people.

Abarquez also thanked Suzanne Mariee Guinness and Sean Booth for their help.
